Sunburn – Treatment & Prevention

Tanned skin was considered a healthy body previously. Not nowadays it is considered as an indication of the side effects of the ultraviolet rays that are coming from the sun are really very dangerous.  premature aging, a higher risk of cancer, walleye, etc.  During the summer season, sun-bath is an inevitable activity. Many people forget about the time and at the end of which sunburn reminds them that they should have stayed in sunshine less.

What is sunburn?

 

Sunburn is an acute cutaneous inflammatory reaction that occurs due to the extensive exposure of the skin to ultraviolet rays (UVR). Sunburn is generally considered as a first-degree or superficial burn, but sometimes, the sunburn reaches severe conditions and is considered as a second-degree burn, dehydration, or secondary infection. If the skin gets exposed to f UVR for a longer time period, then its side effects appear. This may cause blister to appear on the skin and severe itching.

Treatments to cure sunburn

Following are the treatments to cure sunburn.

  • Aspirin: it is a pain reliever and helps us to relieve the itching and swelling caused by mild to moderate burns. If you get sunburn then use two tablets every 4 hours.
  • Drink Water: to prevent dehydration drink 3 liters of water per day. this is will also help you to get recover soon.
  • Yogurt: apply yogurt to the areas that got affected by sunburn. Take shower with cool water and pat the dry skin gently.
  • Teabag: apply tea bags soaked in cold water to your eyes in order to decrease swelling.
  • Soothing compresses: you can apply soothing compresses dipped in skim milk or oatmeal water for 20 minutes every 2 – 4 hours.
  • Eat four carrots a day or intake supplements containing beta-carotene.
  • To minimize friction and chafing, sprinkle talcum or cool powder on your bed sheets or your skins. Try to get as much sleep as you can. In this way, you will recover faster.

Preventions after sunburns

 

If there are blisters on your body, don’t burst or open them. Try to keep the blisters uncovered and apply vinegar & honey remedies. You can also apply antibacterial products to prevent infection.

There are a hundred tips for treating sunburn, yet some of them will not be suitable for you. You should apply tips according to the type of your skin and sunburn.

Follow the tips given below to prevent you from getting sunburn:

  1. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going out in sun. Reapply sunscreen after swimming or after heavy perspiration. Protect your neck, lips, eyes, hands, and ears.
  2. Take extra care of your skin between 1:00 am and 4:00 pm. That’s because the sun reaches its peak during this time.
  3. If you want to get tanned, apply it gradually. Start the exposure for 15 minutes and then increase it for a few minutes only at a time.
  4. Wear protective clothing when you are not taking sunbath or swimming.
  5. Minimize the timing of Sunbath in summer.

Ultraviolet rays coming from the sun are very dangerous to human health and are causing many diseases so, avoid having a sunbath for too much long time.
